Air source heat pumps in Coventry

Put simply, a heat pump pulls warmth out of the air outside and moves it into your home. No gas and no flame. Just electricity to run it. Get the right one in the right house and it can bring down your heating bills as well as your carbon footprint.

But we won’t pretend they suit every home. So the first thing we do is come and have an honest look at yours.

How an air source heat pump works

There’s a box that sits outside, a bit like an air con unit. Its fan pulls air across a coil of refrigerant, and that refrigerant soaks up heat even on a cold day. Inside, a compressor turns it up to a temperature that’s actually useful. That heat then goes to your radiators (or underfloor heating) and your hot water cylinder.

If you’ve ever felt the back of a fridge, it’s the same idea run backwards. They’ll keep your house warm through a British winter. On really freezing days the output drops a touch, which is exactly why we take sizing seriously.

Is a heat pump right for your home?

Plenty of Coventry homes can take one. Whether it works well comes down to three things.

Insulation

A heat pump runs cooler than a boiler and runs for longer. So if heat’s leaking out through the loft or the walls, you’ll feel it. Sorting insulation first often makes the biggest difference.

Radiators

You might be able to keep the ones you’ve got. Small or older radiators sometimes need swapping for bigger ones so every room still gets warm.

Space outside

The outdoor unit wants somewhere with decent airflow. Usually that’s against a back or side wall or in the garden. Inside, you’ll need a cupboard or loft space for a hot water cylinder.

Save £7,500 with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme

Right now the Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives £7,500 off an air source heat pump. If you own your home in England or Wales and you’re swapping out gas, oil or electric heating, there’s a good chance you’ll qualify.

We’ll check that for you when we quote and walk you through how the grant works. The rules do change from time to time, so we always work from the current ones.

How your heat pump installation works

1. Home assessment

We visit your home, look at your insulation, radiators and current heating and work out how much heat your home needs.

2. System design

Using what we found, we pick the right size heat pump and cylinder. We’ll also confirm whether the grant applies.

3. Installation

We fit the outside unit and cylinder, swap any radiators that need it, then fire everything up and test it.

4. Handover and aftercare

We show you how to get the best from your system. We recommend a service every year to keep it efficient and protect your warranty.

Why choose Green Box Energy for heat pumps in Coventry

We’re a local Midlands team and we’re in Coventry and Warwickshire all the time. Because we fit gas boilers as well as renewables, we’ve got no reason to push you one way. We’ll tell you whether a heat pump, a new boiler or a hybrid of both makes most sense for you.

Heat pumps for Coventry homes

Coventry’s housing is a mix of old and new. Victorian terraces in Earlsdon and Chapelfields. Post-war semis from the city’s rebuild. Modern estates out towards the edges of the city.

If your house is newer or already well insulated, fitting a heat pump tends to be straightforward. Older solid-wall homes can work too. They just might need some insulation or bigger radiators first. You’ll know what’s involved after the assessment, before you’ve spent a penny.

And if a heat pump isn’t the right call yet, a new A-rated boiler could be. See our boiler installation in Coventry page. Got solar panels and batteries, or thinking about them? Pairing them with a heat pump can bring running costs down further.

Heat pump FAQs

Honestly, it varies. The size of your home, how much heat it loses and whether you need new radiators or a cylinder all play a part. The £7,500 grant takes a big chunk off if you qualify. Book a free home assessment and we’ll give you a clear figure.

Lots of them are. We look at the insulation, the radiators and the space you’ve got. Some need a bit of work first and we’ll tell you straight if that’s the case.

Yes. They’re made to cope with UK winters. Output dips slightly when it’s freezing, so we size the system with that in mind.

In most cases, no. A heat pump can replace your boiler completely. In some larger homes we may recommend a hybrid system that pairs a heat pump with a boiler.

Yes, they do. Older ones sometimes need replacing to get the best out of the system.

Once a year. That keeps it running efficiently and keeps your warranty in place.

If you own your home in England or Wales and you’re replacing gas, oil or electric heating, you probably are. We’ll confirm it when we quote.
